Chess Federation of Sri Lanka
Chess Federation of Sri Lanka is the sole governing body for all chess activities in Sri Lanka. It was recognised by Ministry of Sports as a National body on 15.11.1976. CFSL was affiliated to World Chess Federation in 1978 during the Buones Aires Chess Olympiad.

1) National - "B":
18th ,19th ,24th & 25th May and 1st & 2nd June 2002 at CFSL H.Q.

2) Selection Tournament for Asian Junior 2002:
6th ,7th ,8th & 9th June at CFSL H.Q.

3) Asian Junior Chess Championship 2002:
27th June to 6th July 2002 at Hotel Club Palm Bay Marawila

4) National "A" and Women’s National Finals:
20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 26th, 27th & 28th July at CFSL H.Q.

5) Novices Championship 2002 - Qualifying:
7th 8th 14th & 15th September in Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Badulla, Jaffna, Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa

6) Novices Finals:
14th, 15th, 20th, 21st & 22nd September at CFSL H.Q.

Asian Junior Championship 2002
CFSL will host the 2nd largest Chess event in Asia, the Asian Junior Chess Championship, in June 2002 next year. Please visit this page for more information.

FIDE

Milestones 1999 to 2001
(A) Ceremonial opening of the CFSL headquarters on 2nd May 2000.

(B) Sri Lanka finishes 24 positions ahead of its pre-tournament rankings in the 34th Chess Olympiad in Istanbul Turkey from 27th October to 13th November 2000.

(C) Increase in the Internationally rated players by 73%.

(D) Sri Lanka win the rights to host the Asian Junior Championship 2002 at the 71st General Assembly in Turkey from 2-13 November 2000.

(E) Sri Lanka was chosen as the venue for South Asian Qualifying tournament for the World Championship 2001 at the Asian Continental Assembly held in Iran from 21-23 February 2001. [Organized in May 2001]

(F) First National Federation of Sri Lanka to Conduct a Chess Development Programme in Jaffna. (July 2001)
